- February 2005 The 100,000-strong permanent colony of Chilean Flamingos of the Mar Chiquita wetlands, in the NE of the province of Córdoba, has not reproduced this summer. Causes are still unknown. It is not the first time this happens, but it is certainly a rare phenomenon. This lagoon is one of the 5 largest bodies of salt water in the world, it is the largest in Argentina, and together with the Rio Dulce wetlands is one of Argentina's "Ramsar" sites that protects wetlands of high biodiversity.
